Looking for coincidences

Ok, I’m sure I don’t want to write about this. Some part of me says “this is…stupid”. On the other hand, some people found it interesting, so… I’m writing…

Looking for coincidences is something I do since I can remember from my childhood. I was always looking at numbers; channels, pages, number of cars, the hour, everywhere you can find numbers and as a child it was a game for me.

So, I would spent a day getting up a 6:47a.m. Get to school late at 7:46. Start the day with the sixth kumo (a weird, stupid way to make children do math problems. It was applied in elementary school and it were different books numbered as levels, so if you finished one, you went to the next). Doing the 47th problem. Listening to boring teachers the rest of the morning. Lunch time, unexpectedly get home and turn on the tv: channel 47 on.

If you now know what I mean, you maybe understand why I didn’t want to write this at first.

Ok, then it was a game. But with time perhaps I forgot the funny part. Now I still look unconsciously for coincidences. These days I have been watching tv at night only and, curiously I always turn on the tv at 10:48.

To de-personalize this, everyone look for coincidences, unconsciously. A couple of days ago I said “wow” to a friend who just told me something that deserved the sarcasm. He yelled “damn, everyone is saying that” and asked me why. I told him I didn’t know, I never said the word and haven’t heard it from anyone that day. He heard it 6 times.

Are they really coincidence?s. Something that happened more than once just by casualty or is that after we paid attention to something (a word, a number, an image or even an expression) we started looking for it, listening carefully and reading always looking for that something, for that coincidence. In the end, we came up with the word, didn’t we?

Just think about that, was there any moment you felt a coincidence happening? What was it? A word, a number? Don’t be awkward, it’s not bad to feel one.
